To a great extent, if you want your public events to be a big success, then you’ve got to be exited, upbeat, and open to changing your approach. Sold Out by Susan Ordona is a blue print, a how to manual, for maximizing the possibility that your public events will be full with stand-room only. The book is thoughtfully well-organized, easy to read, and provided a good review of everything you need to create a social media marketing plan for your events. The book will be a great resource for people wanting to create a social media marketing company and for those of us who need help learning how to do a few things for ourselves. However, after reading the book and learning about all that is involved in social media marketing for an event, it is clear that a team of people is needed to successfully market any event that is sold out. Not only does Susan Ordona describe the team members needed and their roles (chapter 5), she provides a great discussion of the social media platforms and the web 2.0 web applications that are needed to launch a social media campaign. The tips about how to build your online presence are invaluable. As you read the book, you’ll notice that Susan Ordona offers a personal look at some of the challenges she has faced with her client. The way she incorporated this advice piece (Susan’s Corner) into the flow of the book is very nice. While the entire book is thorough and packed-full of information, the advice section (Susan’s Corner) is also full of useful and practical information. Reading the book helped me to address the questions I had about organizing a social-media marketing plan. In fact, it also helped me to see questions that I had not considered. Thanks you Susan for this how to manual for creating a social media campaign that is exciting and very likely to have a standing-room only crowd. What’s also great is that that I can now clearly see why it’s so important during and after the event to encourage everyone to actively share the event using social media channels. If you are going to have a powerful and successful event, then you’ve got to know what social media channels to use. I strong recommend this book for authors, professional speakers, and business owners who need a reliable way to attract people (potential customers) to their events.
