Most of us are familiar with the somewhat clichéd, What Would Jesus Do? Perkins manages to weave wild tales of heartache and letdowns with a thread of comedy and joy, despite the circumstances he is describing. His writing style is easy to read and truly engaging. He effectively challenges the reader of this book, to take a moment, to look at the situations they are in through a different lens, through the eyes of Christ. Here there are simple tools that will help all discover how to become more like Jesus in faith, character and relationships in this beautifully written book. The Jesus Experiment and accompanying 12 session study will take you on a journey to the abundant life we've always wanted, though I would have appreciated more about the John 10v10, from the scriptural manifesto, rare and deeply applicable. More than a book, it’s an invitation for truthful feelings, thoughts, words, and actions in the pattern of Jesus. Each segment will cause the purity of focus on a different aspect of Jesus’ life, including how he faced his fears, how he talked with God, and how he helped others. Change and challenge abound here! Becoming more like Jesus

People look for satisfaction in many places, such as buying a new house or taking a vacation. As Perkins reminds readers in "The Jesus Experiment", "one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions". (Luke 12:15). Our pursuit should be about becoming like Christ rather than acquiring "things" or seeking status. In his personal quest to move away from worldly pursuits and become more like Jesus, Perkins embarked on a twelve-week spiritual exercise he calls "The Jesus Experiment".
Through these 12 weeks, he focused on four areas. 1) What Jesus did in a variety of situations, 2) What he would do today in similar real-life situations, 3) Evaluating what he would do and 4) Preparing a plan to actively follow in Jesus' footsteps the next time he found himself in similar circumstances.
Each of the twelve chapters has a different theme with three main focus areas: what Jesus did in private, what he did in public, and what He did with people. Perkins shares personal stories while challenging readers to reflect on their own experiences and daily pursuits. For example, in the chapter on having a personal mission, he encourages readers to look at the talents they have and how they can help fill a purpose. Doing this self-evaluation is an important step towards creating a mission statement and reveals what we value. After presenting his ideas in each chapter, Perkins asks readers to reflect at the end of the week on where they are and suggests steps for continual growth.
The Jesus Experiment offers practial, helpful guidelines for Christians seeking to become more like Christ. It is not a simple book to read. To get the most out of it, readers will want to spend a full week on each chapter. By thoughtfully considering the principles in each of the chapters, Christian readers will find wisdom to help them grow and become more like Jesus.

Not What I Expected

I was very much looking forward to reading this book, because it sounded so wonderful! Don't get me wrong, it was a great book. But it wasn't quite what I expected. It focuses on one aspect of Jesus' personality each week, and then breaks it down on how He displayed it and how we can display it in our own lives. I really like the concept, as that is what the Bible calls us to do. However, I felt like they were very vague aspects of His personality; ones that we should be displaying anyway. This is still a great book, and I do recommend it for those who are looking to shake up their faith a little!

It's very simple--this is a book you MUST read

I've been a Christian all my life and have always heard that we need to be like Jesus, we need to give Him our hearts, we need to surrender to His will, we need to walk with Him, etc. But how does one actually DO THESE THINGS? Bill Perkins hits the nail on the head with this incredibly practical, engaging book. Read it, implement it, and your life will be changed. (Bill, thank you for letting God speak through you--I am praying for you and your ministry)
