About the Author
Basil Hatim is Professor of Translation and Linguistics at Heriot Watt University, UK and Professor of English and Translation at the American University of Sharjah, UAE. He is very well known internationally for his books with Ian Mason and single-authored texts. Jeremy Munday is Deputy Director of the Centre for Translation Studies, University of Surrey, UK and author of our very successful Introducing Translation Studies. Both are practising translators as well as theorists and experienced teachers.

An extremely bad example of academic prose

I had to read large chunks of this book for a postgraduate course and I really had a hard time understanding every single sentence of it. The prose is obscure, the structure incomprehensible, the figures and diagrams completely unhelpful. Let me add that I certainly don't make such comments flippantly: I am a skilled translator with an analytical mind and several years' experience, plus a PhD in hard science, so I can usually read and understand any kind of text. I vaguely feel that the content of the book is indeed interesting, so it is very unfortunate that the authors have chosen to bury it below layers and layers of turgid nothingness. Coming from two linguists, unforgivable.

I recomend it for advanced readers

It's a well edited and wonderful source of information but it's for advanced readers. I don't use it for my translation classes.
